Biking in the Dark July 31, 2007

So it's July 31st, heat of the summer. Great weather. I'm in doors on my bike trainer a lot. I was in Camire's the other day and Keith says, "how can you ride on the trainer in July?" I say "air conditioning, a fan and the Tour de France on Versus. OK. understood. But the Tour is over now and I'm riding watching old Arsenal vs. Chelsea matches from '05.  Nothing like sports that is 2 years old... I also had to ride in the dark since my son kept getting up and coming down stairs when he should have been asleep. I figured the dark basement steps and dark hall would suggest that I was not really down here. Well, he actually went to sleep in the end. I only put in about 15 miles, but this is just maintenance at this point. Some single leg stuff and high cadence work. I heard today that the Rhode Island marathon, the Breakers Marathon which I ran in '05 has a new course this year. I am planning a marathon for the fall, so maybe it will be local. I was considering Hartford or Philly, also. Any comments are welcome.

Some good news for me. I checked the on-line results for the Blessing of the Fleet and I was more than a minute faster than I thought, at 1:14.12.I didn't get to stop my watch since the family was right there at the tape and I grabbed my two big kids' hands and walked them immediately toward the water table. Man was it hot.

Also, please visit the buildinganironman.com web site periodically. I will be adding training tools and odds and ends as time allows. Now some stretching and Yoga and taking care of my little baby Hope through the night.

Later, MW
